Challenge of Bishop Kevin to Young Adult Volunteers at closing Mass of Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes

The notion of service is not popular nowadays, with all the focus on equality. But you have come here to serve and you have not been diminished by it. On the contrary I would say you obviously enjoyed it and were enriched by it. Jesus tells us that the greatest among us is the one who serves.
For those of you who have decisions to make about the future, I would encourage you to keep the idea of service in your frame of reference, and I would put this challenge to you. In your daily prayer ask God for wisdom to know what he wants you to do and to be, and courage to follow that path. Don’t add foot-notes or exemption clauses. I dare you to ask Him. He will not mess with you. He has prepared for you, as the prophet Jeremiah once said, “a future full of hope”.
